Professional Development Seminars

Decoding the science, leadership and philosophy behind organizational performance.
A Masterclass with Jean-Christophe Le Coze and Malcolm Staves

Hands-on: what to deploy, what to refuse, and how to govern it — risk-discovery tools, computer vision, LLM investigators, and an AI assurance framework delegates take home.

The BBS–HOP argument run as a working seminar: delegates test both toolkits against live cases and leave with a defensible synthesis for their own organization.

Drift, weak signals and the metabolization problem: a war-game in which delegate teams stress-test a live operation's catastrophe blindness using the Coefficient of Chronic Unease.

One idea each delegate will act on within 90 days, captured and circulated; farewell from the founders. Forum closes 13:00.

Decoding Safety: From Safety Science to Strategy

How do leaders create organizations where people choose to engage, contribute and take ownership rather than simply comply?

For decades, organizations have invested in systems, standards, audits and metrics to improve performance. Yet some organizations consistently create cultures characterized by trust, engagement and learning while others struggle to translate good intentions into sustainable results.

In this Masterclass, Malcolm Staves and Jean-Christophe Le Coze bring together decades of experience from two complementary worlds: global leadership practice and safety science research. Drawing upon Malcolm’s 35+ years leading EHS strategy, cultural transformation and organizational development across multinational organizations, and Jean-Christophe’s internationally recognized research into safety science, human factors and organizational learning, participants will explore a practical model that connects safety science with leadership and organizational performance.

The Masterclass draws on years of collaboration between Malcolm and Jean-Christophe, supported by extensive field studies of safety management systems and leadership practices in complex multinational organizations. Moving between science and practice, participants will examine leadership engagement, trust, culture, organizational maturity, performance measurement, human factors, governance, capability building and organizational learning.

More importantly, participants will learn how these elements connect together as a system and how leaders can create the conditions for sustainable performance in an increasingly complex world.

Participants will leave with practical frameworks, new perspectives and a clearer roadmap for strengthening leadership, culture and organizational effectiveness within their own organizations.
