Leadership Best Practices for Excellence in Process Safety Management
Process Safety Management (PSM) is now a widely accepted management systems concept for preventing and managing risks of highly hazardous chemicals. But not all companies are seeing performance improvement, and many manufacturers, users, and transporters still are experiencing significant catastrophic losses.
• What does it take for a company’s PSM management system to excel to a level of excellence?
• How do the best companies achieve and sustain this level?
• What is the value of having this level of performance in PSM?
These questions are to be discussed in a leading-edge discussion on process safety performance and the strategies and tactics to organize, motivate, and perform to that level on a risk basis.
Leadership plays several particularly important roles in the success of the program including commitment, resources, direction, attention, and ultimately insisting on a highly active culture of process safety management.
Process safety management (PSM) has been traditionally focused primarily on technical and management systems that must be implemented to achieve compliance. But it is essential to have a clearly defined process for focusing on the underlying PSM culture to facilitate the management system to be effective and to have a breakthrough to the next level of performance.
