Panel Discussion: Mental Health

Arijana has worked in the public sector for over 25 years, ranging from front line service delivery to senior and executive positions with significant experience in the multicultural and Indigenous communities, in both rural and remote, and municipal environments, and has led numerous jurisdictional initiatives with a focus on equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplaces. She is presently an ADM/ Territorial Executive Director with the Government of Northwest Territories, Department of Health and Social Services. She is a tireless advocate for supporting employee wellness and promoting the importance of Psychological Health and Safety in the workplaces.

She is a recognized and respected change leader at the inter-jurisdictional level and with various professional and academic committees. Of research, interest is the value of proactive mental wellness initiatives and the interconnected relationships between leadership and employee wellness. Her extensive experience in teaching and course development has provided opportunities to incorporate PHS into senior-level management courses. A respected and award-winning post-secondary instructor and conference guest speaker to diverse audiences, Arijana’s work includes contributing to a leadership textbook with a chapter on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Indigenous and multicultural workplaces in the Arctic.

Arijana holds a bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Social Work, a master’s in social work, business administration and indigenous relations, and is presently pursuing a Ph.D. in public service leadership and its impact on service outcomes, researching Generative Leadership in the public sector in the three Canadian Territories.
