Journey into an Interdependent Sustainability Culture
For PMI, sustainability is more than just minimizing negative externalities and mitigating risks while maximizing operational efficiency and resource optimization. It is an opportunity for innovation, growth, and value creation.
Through our sustainability materiality analysis we identify, assess, and prioritize ESG topics from our products and operations.
Our ambition is to create an interdependent culture in which highly skilled individuals and autonomous teams own their responsibility for health, safety and workplace environment.
How will we achieve this? Through our journey towards an interdependent sustainability culture.
Annually, sites evaluate key aspects of culture (Leadership, Planning & Assessment, Implementation & Control, Evaluation & Corrective action, Capability & Knowledge) using an assessment tool that considers inputs from management and employee representatives.
Sites use results to develop their Strategy and Masterplans. They implement actions and progress is tracked by management teams. This process is interlinked with PMI continuous improvement system, with clear relationships between tools and processes and the culture dimensions.
Our key takeaways on this journey are:
a) A structured tool to assess culture is needed along the journey.
b) Maturity progress should be balanced with proper governance to sustain results.
c) Leadership’s commitment is key.
